Caring for Printed Fabrics: A Washing and Ironing Guide

The three most important rules for keeping a printed fabric's color vibrant over time are: washing at low temperature, washing/ironing the fabric inside out, and never letting the iron touch the printed surface directly. When these three points are observed, color fading on digitally printed fabrics slows down considerably.

Why does wash temperature matter?

Washing at high temperature causes print dye to break away from the fiber structure faster; that's why around 30°C is recommended for most printed fabrics, and even lower temperatures for delicate fabrics.

Why is turning inside out recommended?

Washing fabric inside out reduces the printed surface's direct exposure to friction (from other clothes, the washing machine drum); this simple step noticeably slows visible wear.

The ironing rule: no direct contact

Letting a hot iron touch the printed surface directly can damage the print layer; ironing the fabric inside out, or placing a thin cloth in between, preserves the print's integrity.

Differences by fiber group

Cotton and viscose-group fabrics are generally more delicate and require lower temperatures; polyester-group fabrics are relatively more heat-resistant, but high-temperature washing is still not recommended. Each fabric's specific care/production note is listed on its product detail page.

Can printed fabric be tumble dried?

Due to the risk of high heat exposure, air-drying inside out is generally recommended instead of a tumble dryer.

Can color fading be prevented entirely?

It can't be prevented entirely, but simple steps like low-temperature washing, turning inside out, and avoiding direct iron contact noticeably slow the fading process.
